I take on freelance project management/editing and copy-editing work for magazines, newspapers, book publishers and online content providers. I have nearly 15 years experience working in the publishing industry, and am adept at project editing, rewriting, copy-editing, proofreading, picture research and indexing. I always work with a clear focus and with strong attention to detail, and am thoroughly proficient in Adobe InDesign, QuarkXpress and flatplanning software.

Royal Museums Greenwich publications

COVER AND BACK COVER

I project-managed the 2014-15 Annual Review for Royal Museums Greenwich (consisting of the National Maritime Museum, the Royal Observatory Greenwich, Cutty Sark and the Queen’s House). This involved editing and writing copy for each event/department, and overseeing the planning, budget, design, printing and distribution processes. It was a pleasure to work with the staff at RMG and the designers at Blast Design, and to get an in-depth overview of the exhibitions, events and successes of the organisation over the past year.

Time Out city guides

imgresTime Out city/travel guides that I have edited as both a staff editor and on a freelance basis include guides to Copenhagen (5th and 6th editions), Stockholm (4th and 5th editions), Madrid, and Mallorca & Menorca; Shortlist guides to Madrid and Florence; and Great Days Out from London. This involved planning the content, undertaking trips to research new restaurants, shops, bars, architecture, trends and cultural phenomena, creating flatplans, writing and editing content, and laying out pages in collaboration with the design team. I was also deputy editor and/or contributor for dozens of other titles, including Time Out New York and Time Out Buenos Aires.

Specialist London guides

London's-Best-ShopsI edited Time Out’s annual London’s Best Shops guide (previously called London Shops & Services) for three editions, and the Time Out Diary for two editions. I also contributed to the Time Out Eating & Drinking guide – writing restaurant reviews for eight editions of the annual guide. In addition, I was a contributor to Cheap Eats in LondonTime Out Pubs & Bars, London for Londoners, Weekend Breaks from London, 1,000 Things to do in London and London for Children, and was deputy editor for the Time Out London guide, London for Visitors and Great Trees of London books.

Current Publishing, sub-editing

Current world archaeology I spent several weeks working with the lovely folks at Current Publishing in summer 2013, sub-editing the latest editions of their three core titles: Current Archaeology, Current World Archaeology and Military History Magazine. This involved general copy-editing, checking facts, updating flatplans, and fitting the copy with the layouts using Adobe InDesign. It also involved liaising with the staff editors, designer and art director.
